Black Skimmers nest in large colonies and flocks are often seen on the beaches of Edisto Island, South Carolina.
They feed along the surface of the ocean water. The large red and black bill is knife-thin and the lower mandible is longer than the upper. This allows the Skimmers to cut through the water's surface to catch fish or shrimp.
