"Tatoosh Vista" - Mount Rainier National Park, Washington

This Mount Rainier Image was captured at the eastern end of the Tatoosh Range which serves as the southern border between Mount Rainier National Park and the Tatoosh Wilderness.  As is the case with many of the high ridges and peaks that border Mt. Rainier, the vistas of this massive and breathtaking stratovolcano can simply leave you speechless.  The Puyallup Tribe of Native Americans called Rainier "Tahoma" which means "mother of waters" whose name still very aptly applies today.  An interesting fact, which gives credence to the Puyallup's name of "Tahoma," is that the volume of ice contained in Rainier's glaciers is greater than the total volume of all the other glaciers in the lower 48 states combined.
From a photographic standpoint, I chose to shoot this image on a late afternoon in August (1996) so that I could capture the beautiful backlight that casts such a serene mood on the mountain, and which also helps to define and separate the various rugged ridges resulting in great depth in the picture.  I like to call this affect "horizontal layering" which I try to implement as often as possible to help give my images an almost 3D effect.

SPECIAL NOTE:  Due to the width limitations of any website, it is impossible to properly display the quality of a very wide panoramic image like this one.  The best way to consider any of my panoramic offerings is to understand that the exact same image quality exists in these images as with my other square images, but only on a much larger scale.  My Fujica G617 panorama camera uses the same 120 film as my Bronica (which was used to capture my square images), but the image frame is about three times as wide (6 x 17cm vs. 6 x 6cm).  So please don't be confused, or concerned, by the smaller displayed image that you see here.  My Fine Art panoramic images are extremely impressive and can be custom printed by the LightJet laser printer in sizes up to 50 x 120.
