"Mirror Lake" - Mount Hood National Forest, Oregon
Mirror Lake is a short 45 minute hike just west of Government Camp on the south side of Highway 26 in the Mount Hood National Forest. The trail and lake area are very popular with day hikers, but also give photographers an excellent foreground for views of the south side of Mt. Hood, Oregon's tallest peak at 11,249 feet. I took this picture in June of 1989, at the “golden hour,” just a few minutes before sunset. I wanted to compose the image in such a way as to combine the dramatic “wispy” clouds (which I incorporated into the top half of the image) with the long shadows on the mountain, the silhouette of the trees, and the soft reflection off Mirror Lake. Please also see my "
Alpenglow/ Mirror Lake" image which was captured just a few moments later.
I also captured my "
Pacific Rhododendron" and "
Mirror Lake Trail" Fine Art Images on this same hike.
