Screen vs. Print Quality
Botswana, and Chobe National Park in particular, is the last great refuge for African Elephants. The park lies in the very north of Botswana and covers some 4090 square miles. It contains a staggering 35-40,000 of the country’s 120,000 elephant population. One of the most enjoyable experiences when photographing elephants on the Chobe flood plain, is to arrive before the family groups come down to the water for their regular afternoon drink and a bath. If you are quiet, they will generally ignore a vehicle and pass by so close they are rubbing the paintwork. On some afternoons in the winter, many groups appear almost as if synchronized, to form a large herd of over 200 strong, which will casually move around your vehicle for hours. These gatherings are not an accident, as the groups communicate with each other over long distances using ultrasound. This particular afternoon, a massive thunderstorm was brewing, giving the dramatic lighting on a group which had just enjoyed their daily constitutional.
