Screen vs. Print Quality
Cape (or African) Buffalo are not the easiest of animals to photograph, as their dark hides just run to a black and detail-less form. This is unfortunate as the coat hairs have a red tinge which in warm light is quite attractive. Late one afternoon we came across a herd of buffalo on its way to a water hole. Knowing the game paths, I anticipated that they were heading towards the far side which was lit by the low sun. Sure enough, following some frantic off-road driving, I arrived just in time. As we positioned the vehicle, the herd started to move in, and the light was just perfect. Within a few minutes the sun disappeared below the tree line and the glow on their hides vanished.
