We visited the lush hills of Santa Rosa on a trip to the Galapagos Islands in order to view giant tortoises in their natural habitat. One bonus of this trip was photographing this endemic sub-specie of the Vermillion Flycatcher. This male bird is known locally as “brujo”, which means sorcerer. While I was able to capture several interesting shots of the flycatcher, including some on a giant tortoise, this one is a favorite. Isolated and softened by the telescopic lens and framed by the leaves, limbs and moss of one of its favorite trees, this image of Brujo seems to best represent the feel of the bird and its habitat. The original photo was taken with a Nikon D70 digital camera. The image was then downloaded and digitally enhanced. The archival "fine art giclee" prints are produced using a professional-level Epson 7600 Photographic Printer with "ultrachrome" ink on Epson's Somerset Velvet paper, creating a soft, matted "painting-like" finish. Signed & numbered limited edition: 6"x12" & 9"x18", 100 prints each; 12"x24", 50 prints; 15"x30" and 18"x36", 25 prints each.
