While the Western United States does not have the diversity of trees found in the East, Aspens (populus tremuloides) do provide a spectacular show in spring and fall.  The light green foliage of new Aspen leaves bring dramatic color to a snowy and stormy spring setting.  The picture has several important compositional elements: stormy sky, yellowy-green bark of the trees, green foliage and the juxtaposition of the vertical trees and the diagonal shadow lines.  The combination of these elements gives a sense of depth to the image.
